Kimi's Kimonos - Block of the Month 2025

Welcome to the Kimi’s Kimonos Block of the Month 2025 where we will make a Japanese inspired quilt, featuring kimonos.

This is a one-off charge for the whole year of patterns with videos.

There are a total of 13 Kimono blocks, based on the same kimono but with several variations. The kimonos have some 3-D features - the sleeves and side flaps of the lower kimono are made so they sit on top and the obi (sash) is pleated, this all makes the blocks more interesting.

There are some rectangle blocks as well as some appliqued circles.

Are you ready?

The pattern is divided into 12 parts - so 12 months.

The method shown for the appliqued circles will be fused raw edge applique.

The blocks are pieced, including the 3-D elements.

The quilt looks great in Japanese fabrics - see the suggested fabrics

Using a lightish background for the main areas helps the kimonos stand out.

You may like to embellish your blocks and are encouraged to do so, but no pressure!
